How Plastic Surgery Can Boost Your Career

A growing body of research has found that a person's physical attractiveness can have an effect on his career. The research shows that physically attractive college graduates are more likely to get hired, and that attractive people make more money and have more opportunities for advancement. As a result, a growing number of people--men and women alike--are turning to plastic surgery in their efforts to further their careers.
According to the American Academy of Facial and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, two thirds of plastic surgeons reported seeing men and women who requested cosmetic surgery last year because they wanted to stay competitive in the workplace.
"It's a good investment for the workplace," said Gordon Patzer, author of "Looks: Why They Matter More Than You Ever Imagined." He added that investments that improve a person's physical appearance and make him look younger can delay the decline of his workplace effectiveness as he ages.
Patzer noted that there are certain cosmetic procedures that are a good investment, such as eyelid surgery, which was the fourth-most-common surgical cosmetic procedure last year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Teeth whitening is another great investment because teeth turn gray with age, Patzer said.
