Plastic Surgery Brings Multiple Challenges
Brunswick News (2008-05-06) ; Smith, Andrew
Plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer recently wrote "My Beautiful Mommy," a picture book that explains cosmetic surgery to children. Big Tent Books, which published the book, says the firm has already sold out of its existing stock of the title.
The publisher's sales manager, Jerry Seltzer, notes that most of the response to the book have been good. Conversely, some individuals have called to contest the book's controversial subject. "It's to help mothers explain about plastic surgery, not to convince their children it's okay," Seltzer stresses.
Meanwhile, Salzhauer states that his book is simply meant to "allow parents who are already going through the process anyway to have a vehicle to explain it to their kids." The surgeries described in the book--tummy tuck and nose reshaping--were two of the five leading cosmetic procedures in this country last year, with 148,000 and 285,000 performed, respectively.
