More Men Are Seeking Nip, Tuck
Washington Times (2006-12-18) P. A11; Allen, Marshall

Physicians claim men are undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures to compete in the workforce, feel more satisfied about their aesthetic shortcomings, and upgrade their love lives. Still, men who get cosmetic surgery are not overly common and they are quite private about the issue. Dr. George Alexander, a plastic surgeon in Las Vegas, notes that the amount of male patients has risen to around 20 percent of his overall practice, versus 10 percent in 2001.

Nationwide, figures reveal a significant increase in male patients. Procedures done on men rose by 16 percent between 2000 and 2005. Among the more popular procedures are tummy tucks, which rose by 37 percent between 2004 and last year, and 156 percent between 2000 and 2005. Lip augmentation is also in demand, increasing by 61 percent between 2004 and last year, and by 458 percent between 2000 and 2005.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Troell states that relationships are a substantial motivator among male patients, particularly among men going back into the dating world.
