A Manly Comeback

Men are usually viewed as less likely candidates for cosmetic surgery, yet that stereotype is now being overturned by males that are seeking "manlier" features. Miami surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Epstein has performed a procedure on a 47 year-old male that sought hair follicles to be transplanted from his hair to his chest, while Beverly Hills surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif says he receives requests for men that want "big, strong, manlier chin[s].
" Surgeons also say men want rhinoplasty, as 20 year-old Mike Love underwent the procedure to reduce the size of his nose; yet he says the result was "small, almost feminine" so he will undergo surgery again for a "more masculine" look.
A growing number of men are clinging to the traditional depictions of masculinity or the "retrosexual" look, seeking more facial hair, more chest hair, defined chins and jaw lines. Epstein reports that he has done 10 facial and chest procedures in the past year-and-a-half, twice the rate compared to former periods.
Though many male patients seek hair transplants for receding hairlines or baldness, the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery reports that facial and chest hair implants have increased in recent years.
