Mommy Make Over

Anesthesia for Mommy Makeover Procedures

One of the most critical steps in choosing a plastic surgeon has nothing to do with the plastic surgeon or his/her office. Your safety is the most important criteria. Since the anesthesiologist and the operating room staff are the ones in charge of your safety, it is important to make sure that they have the right credentials. There are three criteria you should consider.

  • Anesthesia. The anesthesiologist should be board certified in anesthesia.

  • Operating Facility. Another important aspect is to make sure that the surgical facility is at least AAAASF or AAAHC accredited. Prior to 1996, surgeons often operated in non-accredited facilities. This led to several tragic consequences that forced the state of California to mandate that plastic surgery procedures be performed in accredited facilities. The state set up several levels of facility accreditations. The strictest accreditation is Medicare Approved. Acceptable accreditations also include: AAAASF and AAAHC. These accreditations assure that high patient safety standards are met.

  • Recovery Nurse. Another important person is the recovery room nurse. She/he is the one taking care of you immediately after the operation. It is important to make sure she/he is a registered nurse.

Dr. Cruise works only with board certified anesthesiologists who specialize in cosmetic surgery in a Medicare accredited facility. His recovery nurses are always registered nurses. He feels these standards are important for the safety of his patients.

Combination procedures involving the abdomen and breast are typically performed under general anesthetic. This means that you are completely asleep during the entire procedure.
