Laser Hair Removal
Many people find undesirable hair growth on their faces and bodies cosmetically unattractive. Most conventional remedies, such as shaving, hot wax, creams, and depilatories are painful and require repeat treatment within weeks. Laser hair removal offers the opportunity to achieve long-lasting results. Whereas traditional hair removal methods predominantly treat the surface through shaving, waxing, or chemically destroying hair, laser hair removal targets the root. The laser uses high-energy thermal pulses of light to penetrate the upper layer of skin and destroy the hair follicles, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. The process dramatically reduces hair growth. Laser hair removal is most effective on untanned skin when hair is in its active growth phase. Since hair grows in various cycles, it usually takes several treatments to achieve the best results possible. Several weeks before the treatment, stop all plucking, waxing, electrolysis, and depilatory creams. You can expect to reduce hair growth dramatically. Any hair that does grow back will be thinner, lighter, and less noticeable. Immediately after the procedure, the treated area will appear swollen, slightly red, and feel like a mild sunburn. The reaction subsides within a few hours. Ice compresses and topical corticosteroid cream will reduce swelling and discomfort. After treatment, avoid direct sunlight or at least protect the area with the highest SPF sunblock possible. Laser hair removal is effective on all skin types in such areas as the face, arms, legs, underarms, bikini line, and back. Those with light skin and dark hair have the best results. You will experience mild to moderate discomfort. A topical anesthetic may be used one hour before treatment.
