Fatty Gynecomastia / Fatty Male Breasts
Treating Fatty Gynecomastia a.k.a. Pseudo-Gynecomastia
By definition, gynecomastia that is primarily caused by excess fat is called pseudo-gynecomastia. Weight loss is the best treatment, however, weight loss alone often does not get rid of the problem completely. This is especially true with gynecomastia and “love handles.” These two areas do not respond well to weight loss. For some reason, the body tends to hold on to fat in these areas even at ideal body weight. Clearly, however, weight loss is the first line of treatment.
Do I need to have breast tissue cut out or will liposuction alone be enough?
This is the most common question asked by well educated patients with gynecomastia. These patients have done much research. Some doctors say that liposuction alone will take care of their problem. Others say that breast tissue removal is also necessary. The answer is: It depends!

Classic Gynecomastia Fatty Gynecomastia
Above we have outlined the differences between classic gynecomastia and fatty gynecomastia. Look at the profile of the right chest. They are identical. They often look the same. Now, look at the cut out view of the left chest. You will see that the overall shape is the same, however, the fatty gynecomastia clearly has more fatty tissue than the classic gynecomastia (not rocket science here, guys).
Liposuction alone will work well on fatty gynecomastia but it will often leave significant breast tissue behind on classic gynecomastia. When the fat is removed from classic gynecomastia it may turn the chest into a smaller chest with puffy nipples.

Fatty Gynecomastia – Profile view
Notice on the profile view how fatty gynecomastia does has very little if any breast tissue. Liposuction alone may work in these types of gynecomastia but it must be done properly as the fatty tissue is still quite fibrous and resistant to removal. It is much more resistant to removal than other areas of the body.
